Learn to Sing (Better) Program

Who We Are

PLEASE NOTE: The River City Sound Chorus has recently opened participation in our chorus and this Learning Program to women as well as men.  An exciting new opportunity for all singers!  We welcome Everyone in Harmony.

We are part of the International Barbershop Harmony Society, which is the world’s largest singing Society, with affiliated men’s and women’s organizations in more than a dozen countries bring the total number of active singers to more than 80,000 worldwide.

Through active programs in music education, publishing, performance, and outreach, the Society preserves and extends the reach of a uniquely American close harmony musical art form whose roots lie in African-American improvisation and European harmony traditions. Founded in 1938 as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA), the Society now expends $1.3 million annually in support of community and school programs that bring the fellowship, fulfillment, and excitement of vocal music, a cappella style, to a new generation of singers. (Our Winnipeg Chapter has been operating since 1948, and has supported many community organizations and causes over the years.)

The Learn To Sing (Better) Program

This is a no-obligation, cost-free and fun-filled opportunity to join a friendly group of men and women, who enjoy singing and sharing their hobby of 4-part, A Cappella harmonizing with others.

Ladies and Gentlemen …the River City Sound Chorus is looking forward to welcoming you to our “Learn to Sing Better” program.   Here’s a chance to improve your singing skills, experience great-sounding A Cappella 4-part harmonies, and share the fellowship of a group of friendly guys and gals.

This will be an instructive and enjoyable 6-week program in vocal singing techniques and chorus singing that will be sure to help singers of all experience levels (none … some …  experienced).  You, along with our chorus members, will have a chance to improve your singing skills, learn some new songs, and, if you wish, stay and listen to the Chorus work on their preparation for upcoming performances.  The program will be led by our Directors, Sherrie Bredesen and Larry Hunter, along with other members of the music team.

Cost

It’s FREE!  All music and learning materials will be provided free of charge for the 2 songs that will be featured.  At the successful completion of the learning program, participants will have the opportunity to join the Chorus in our Christmas Concert and other community performances in the coming months.

Obligation/Commitment

This is a no-obligation program. Participants can participate in some sessions or the entire Program, and, if they are successful in the program and find that this is a fun way to spend their Wednesday evenings, they are welcome to discuss joining the Chapter.
